[Spiritual Disciplines] Fasting & Frugality

If we want to transformation in our lives, then we must make every effort in application to what we have learnt!

This past week during cell group we shared about Fasting & Frugality.

Here are some applications. Let's share on how we are applying what we learnt!

1. Fasting: What are we fasting on in this one week?

2. Frugality: Go through your daily schedule and make a note of what percentage of your thoughts are spent dwelling on indifferent things. Commit yourself to refrain from spending inappropriate amounts of time thinking about things that really do not matter. Ask God to help you bring your thoughts under His guidance. Ask God to help you "take every thought captive for Christ."

3. What have you done to the green beans given to you?

What is your BOTTOM LINE?

Definition of Bottom Line (from http://www.dictionary.com/):
1. The final result or statement.
2. The main or essential point.
3. The decisive point.

Everyone of us function with a bottom line in life. Whether is it towards people or matters of life. It has got something to do with how we are wired up in our minds towards a particular subject incident.

For example:

1. Even though all my friends smoke, play truant and copy during examinations, the bottom line is that I will never be like them.

2. The truth is that life really sucks. But the bottom line is that I will never eat worms nor give up!

3. Despite all the rumours flying around now saying that Peter is a gossip monger, the bottom line is that I still trust him.

In our walk with God, what is our Bottom Line?

In the first hit wave of crisis, do we immediately shatter and start doubting God and His Presence in our lives? Do we give up, turn faithless and doubtful easily whenever things don't go the way we expected it to? Do we not trust that God can turn things around for us?

Down to the fundamental... Do you really believe and trust in God?

Sons, I want to challenge, encourage and make a plead to us that we set our hearts and predetermination before the Lord. That the level of our bottom line with God will be one that never doubt Him regardless of what circumstances come our way.

Then truly we can sing with all our hearts:

I give You praise for You deserve it
I give You praise for what You’ve done
I give You praise for You are able
I give You praise till I overcome

I give You praise when the sun is rising
I give You praise in the dark of then night
I give You praise when the battle rages
I give You praise till it works out right

Shout of the King is among us
God lives here in our praises
Shout of the King is among us
Praise Him, praise Him
Praise Him in everything

Back from YN144 Re-Encounter!

Dear sons, Alvin and myself just came back from our YN144 Re-Encounter in Johor. Personally for myself, I must say that this was a really refreshing time spent with the Lord and the spiritual family and there's just so so much to thank the Lord for!

My trip started on sort of a down note because when I reached there, I realised that I was chosen to be a group leader. Wow! The first wave of thoughts that rushed through my mind was, "Wah seh... Group leader??!!? Sigh, I thought I could rest and relax without any extra role and responsibility. Now got to lead a group ah... sianz.... Am also involved in the worship, how to lead my group effectively?"

However, I braced myself and went ahead to link up with the group. The second wave of thoughts gushed through me when I met them, "Huh! Almost all of them are more senior than me! There are three married couples in the group and two from the deaf minitry. Gosh! Really challenging to lead them ah... "

Negativity and excuses filled my mind pretty much of the first day of the retreat. And trust me, all these things will fuel tiredness in a person.. It makes you grumble, complain and totally unhappy with things around. You guys can check with Alvin.. I totally look worn out that first night.

On the second day morning, we had our solitude time with the Lord and he really spoke to me through Ps Julie's message. I was enslaved in my own world of negativity, complaining and grumbling... totally forgetting what was the whole idea of this re-encounter! Instead of celebrating and giving thanks, I slumped into complaining. I repented before the Lord at that very instance for my poor attitude and really asked for a change of heart there and then.

After that, the grouping didn't change, it was still a challenge to lead them. However, with a new spirit, attitude and dogged determination from the Lord, there was great freedom in engaging the team... totally free from any pressure to perform or meet any expectations.

This was just one of the many encounters I had with the Lord. Will share more in due time. But I left the re-encounter REFRESHED by His Presence, RECHARGED by His love for me, and READY to serve!

Hey guys, been some time since I last posted here. But don't worry,I haven't forgotten about our tribe blog.

Last week's message was about unity, and I think it's great that just nice on that day, a outing was organised with the girl's side. Talk about application. Anyway, after that outing, one of the younger girls mass sent an sms thanking all of us for the time, for the FAMILY feeling that was generated. She requested that more of such times are made. And I really echo that sentiment. Im not one to share very often how I feel, but one of the best things about the church is just that;family. I know there were periods when I feel very distant from people, even u guys. But I wanna affirm that I appreciate the effort, and enjoy the bonding of very different characters here.

1 Cor 12:24-26 says ,"But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,so that its parts have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it;if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it."

We've got the foundation of God as the head of our family, and the efforts to bond that is building up this family, along with the Holy Spirit, that is even now growing this family. What's gonna stop us? The church and all its parts ARE the Dream Team! Lets not rest on our laurels,if we can one day reach the level where when one of us suffers in his personal life, and the rest suffer together. If one day we can LITERALLY fulfil what is stated in 1 Cor 12,we'll not just be helping to make the Kingdom of God even more beautiful than it really is,I believe our personal lives will soar too. I think thats why humans are communal creatures, not solitude ones.

So you know what, don't think likely of the word "family",don't dilute its meaning and the significance it carries. Its more than superficiality, its a huge blessing of God that influences more than just one life.

So my dear family, here's to many more years of increased growth and depth in one body!

Resilency - Built through the Refiners' Fire

Read this short column from TODAY newspaper. Truly speaks volumes about how trials in our life build up that resilency, character and persevering spirit within us.

- Reading this article WILL NOT build resilency within us.

- Neither will capturing it as a knowledge which we can quote or tell stories to our friends build any character within us.

- This article serves only as a reminder for us to be mindful about endurance when we face the next challenge.

Remember, Application brings about Transformation!

Romans 5:1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

James 1:2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything...... 12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Psalm 121

I came across a song about this Psalm while listening to the Chinese service and by reading and meditating the psalm, all I can say is that the Psalmist really have great Faith in regards to His future of Israel and Himself.
Verse 1 it says : I will lift up my eyes to the hill
- where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
In Chinese
我 要 向 山 举 目 ; 我 的 帮 助 从 何 而 来 ?
我 的 帮 助 从 造 天 地 的 耶 和 华 而 来 。
Psalm 121 is a song of ascents, which means that the people of Israel will be singing this song while going to Jerusalem. In another words, this Psalm is like a worship onto the Lord. I believe that the Psalmist wrote this song during or after a trying period of time. Why do i say that? Because the Psalmist is in need of help.
Hey family, will we be able to be like the Psalmist, to be daring to declare this Truth about our God, even through the Hard times in our life. Take Faith like the Psalmist and enter into worship. Remember, Our Worship determinds our Destiny!

Young People These Days - Escapism

Good evening my friends,

Shall we start?

Alright, just as the title suggests, the topic which I'll be touching on for the "Young People These Days" module will be Escapism.

People these days, especially young ones (yes, you know if you are young :P) are very shallow?

First, they make a promise, then they break it, and finally, run away.

I believe all of us ever had went through this phase in our lives before, be it a mere

" T'cher tomorrow I hand up my homework to you, I forgot to bring today", or a "Dear dear, iie lubb euu sh0 muchx, iie wiLx diiee 4 euu"(yes i know what you are thinking).

However, when crisis hits you, how will you react?

Keep the promise? Break the promise? ESCAPE???

An example would be,

"A young man known as Mr A, has a girlfriend known as Miss B. They were a very happy young couple, i'd say 15 years of age. Soon after, Mr A got to know Miss C, who is prettier than Miss B and thus, felt more for Miss C as compared to Miss B. Mr A then decided to find an EXCUSE, which was a LIE, to break up with Miss B, just to be with Miss C. After breaking up with Miss B, he officially got into a relationship with Miss C. And they lived happily ever after...or so Mr A thought. Now that he's with Miss C, he constantly has to try his best to avoid Miss B, for FEAR that his LIE would be discovered and thus, has not been able to walk openly with Miss C anywhere, and if he ever sees Miss B, even if he is alone, he tends to HIDE himself away from her sight, for FEAR of being seen. Even when they ever cross paths, and just have a normal chat with anyone, he tend to be more defensive and starts LYING to COVER UP his initial LIE.

My dear friends, do you all think that he is happy?

Do you want to be like Mr A? Constantly being fearful?

And please, this does not apply for BGR only.

What about your promises to God?

God never fails to keep His promise.

If you keep your promise to God, You are blessed, if you break it, you are answerable to God, but God still loves you and will forgive you.

What about if you escape?

God knows it, remember, God can always PWNZ us anytime, however, He chooses to wait for us to come back to Him. If you TRY to escape, it does not affect God, He will still be there awaiting for you to face Him, but what about yourself?

Thank you for reading,
Your CORNY Professor :P

Question to ponder over:
Why do people tend to choose to escape rather than to keep the promise, or even break the promise and admit it?

Feel free to place your thoughts in the comments :)

Favor with the King - What's Your Excuse?

"Don't flirt with lower lovers! You can lose your destiny! Don't prostitute your anointing from God for something lesser than God's blessing! You are shortchanging yourselves!"

These words of Pastor Tommy Tenny kept ringing in my mind through Mother's Day celebration and even while I was watching the exciting Man Utd vs. Wigan EPL match.

How true these words are. So often because under the peer pressure influence of our friends, or because we do not have "spiritual guts" to stand firm for God, we cave in and follow the world and its cheap values. Things that we know in our minds is not right, but somehow we keep giving excuses that 'We just don't know' or 'We cannot help it', and soon we go with the flow.

Some examples - Illegal downloading, possession of pirated softwares, coarse joking, flirting around with girls...etc

We join the world into doing all these things because we want to feel accepted by the general crowd. We don't dare to make a stand, fearing that our friends will ostracize us. We rather go with the flow - If we can't be the popular and charismatic guy, at least people don't hate us. It is definitely and always easier to go with the flow.

But the truth of the matter is people whom go with the flow will never find favor with the King.

Esther 2:15 When the turn came for Esther (the girl Mordecai had adopted, the daughter of his uncle Abihail) to go to the king, she asked for nothing other than what Hegai, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the harem, suggested. And Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her.

Esther determined in her heart that she would not go with the flow and made choices not for herself or to feel good, but rather she made the choice that the King would like. She didn't bother what the rest would say, she was single-minded in just wanting the King's approval.

Sons, we face many challenges in the world together and many temptations which are vying desperately for our attention. But we have got to raise up that 'spiritual guts' from within us and dare to make a stand for God and not just go with the flow! Stop giving ourselves the 'I don't know...', 'I am not sure...', or 'I just cannot...' excuses anymore.

Put on the garment of Praise! It is a choice to worship freely in His presence. It is a choice to stand firm for God! It is a choice... Do you want favor with the King first? Or man first?

Let's rise up together Family!!!

Memorising Time!!!

Dear Brothers and Ah pa..

I've just listen to the adult service of last week's message by pastor Khong, and boy, Pastor is really serious about wanting us to memorise God's word.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Points to ponder

Hey bros, have we been treating Pastor's word and God's Words like 'ER BIAN FENG'? (wind beside the ears)

If we really respect Pastor, then let's do what pastor says during sermon and memories God's word!!!

Psalm 119:105 (King James Version)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
I remember last Sunday, during the last song before service came to an end, I prayed and ask the Lord to reveal to me what does this verse mean. To really give me an understanding about this verse. The Lord did not reveal the answer to me that day, but He prompt me that as i continue to meditate and seek Him for an answer, He'll slowly reveal it to me.
God's word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. If there is no light or no lamp around, the path before us and where our feet would land when we step forward, will be darkness. Brothers, are we still walking in darkness? Are we looking for a breakthrough, praying for a breakthrough in our walk but it is still not here? The only time we can really walk in freedom and not in darkness is when the Word of God is in the centre of our life. When the Word of God is always in our Hearts!!
Quote Pastor Khong: 'What is the point of coming to service everyweek to hear a good message unless we desperately come and ask the Lord to HELP us understand and OBEY His word!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear family, Let's put God's Word in the centre of our hearts! Let's memorise His word and I pray that the Lord will grant us a new passion and excitement to read His Word.
Let's be strong towers for the Lord, standing strong against the storms of life. Let's not be like a deck of cards and get scattered when the winds come.

Kitkat Bro A Cyberwellness Ambassador

Hi brothers and dad

Ever since i started working and teaching Project / Planet Crush.. I'm began to be more aware of the possible dangers and pitfalls that the internet can cause!

This is why, I'm going to practise what i Teach and be a positive example to my students and peers in the realm of the internet and when i'm blogging.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, I urge you brothers and dad, to refrain from calling me by my real name on the Internet/blog. You can call me by my nickname, Kitkatbar, Kitkat bro or by my initials JC =D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do keep me in prayer too. I've been training and will be continue to be training for the rest of the weeks and such trainings has taken a toil on my voice. Do pray that i will be down with a sore throat!

It's really very tough to train the class, especially if the class are the 'killers classes'. I had a poor/bad first day, because the class i took was a notorious class. However the next few lessons are better because the classes are generally easier to manage compared to that 'killer' class.

Pray that I can find that PASSION.. That EXTRA ZEAL!! when i'm teaching the classes, even though they if they may be 'killer classes'.

But at the end of the day, no matter how tired and drained I might be, I still dare to say that it is worth it!!

Love
Kitkat Bro

Fear of the Lord..

Do you really fear the Lord? =)

i love SP when he questioned how many are putting effort in memorising some Psalms. He is bold to say "if you fear me and respect me, then why aren't you doing what i told you to do".

Likewise let's really ask ourselves, "do i really fear the Lord?"

If we fear Him, then why aren't we doing what He long commanded us to do?

Ook Ook! let's not point fingers here and there and even start the "Mai Xian" attitude.. God has spoken once again in Psalm 128.. Check this out! =P

v1: "Blessed are ALL who FEAR the Lord, who walk in HIS ways!"

This is a promise from God and His words are true! He's telling us He will BLESS those who not only fear Him but also CHOOSE to walk in HIS ways.. it's really up to us to decide what are we going to do now.. we really got a choice! to follow Him or not to follow Him..

Ook Ook! i know i know your concerns.. sometimes we just find it so hard to keep up His standard right.. so difficult right? hehe.. This is the best part lo!! God knows your difficulty and struggles! check out what He got to say to us! ;P

v2: "You will eat the fruit of YOUR labour; blessings and prosperity will be yours."

Hey Hey! God is trying to tell us 2 things through this!

1. A PROMISE! -- When we choose to follow and obey Him with all our hearts, He makes SURE! GUARANTEE! SOoM BA! CHOP HIS STAMP! that BLESSINGS AND PROSPERITY will be ours! in simple terms, we will have GOot LIFE! hehe

2. A WARNING! -- When we choose not to obey His laws, we are going to eat our own fruit from our own labour! eg, a Bad tree can only bear Bad fruits. NO good fruits can come out from a lousy lousy bad bad tree.. in other words! God is saying that there are CONSEQUENCES to be faced when we sin and not walk in His ways! Don't be mistaken! God really loves us! that's y He rebukes those He loves..

Come on Guys! Let's Pick ourselves Up from mistakes and BE A MAN! A GODLY MAN!! i dont even know what is John3:16 at the beginning! plus i keep reciting wrongly so SO many times till sO SO many "Peng" and flipped.. But God nv forsake those who earnestly seek after Him!

God brought me so much memories and laughters about the silly things and struggles i did and went through in the past years! i look at myself today, i know that God had did something special in me! Thank God!

Hope you guys get encouraged and spur that fire in you For God!! Jiayou! Amen!

Alvin =)

Alvin's Post

oh gorsh! i am greatly inspired by PS YC's blog.. you guys should really take a look at his posts. simply speechless.. He's blogging down a post everyday on the Psalm he read in each day..

brothers, one of my faith goal this year is to blog 2 times a week.. wahaha.. frankly, i am really struggling to even keep 4 here and 4 over my personal blog.. it takes effort to blog and it is really some BIG thing for someone to blog everyday!! i am greatly inspired by many...

one reason i can be sure why he's able to be so consistant, "God"!!!

one can blog everyday.. but it's not easy for one to come out a post with substances everyday.. of coz we can say that Ps YC is a man with substance.. However, the key here for this great man to blog a post with substance everyday is God. God is the substance he has been blogging about everyday.. an everlasting substance! GOD!!! =)

At the beginning, we started off this blog for us to spur one another in faith with simple prayer request and encouraging post.. we were doing great at the beginning and even so hot during the fasting period.. i can say that i really took time to check the blog day in day out expecting to see exciting updates and inspiring posts of how God speaks and brings joy into many of our lives..

let's keep the fire burning.. let us be committed.. not to blog for the sake of blogging.. but share the worries in lives so we can pray for breakthroughs, wonderful insights so we can learn more and exciting miracles of God so that we constantly move in faith and believe in Him more in each everyday.. =)

Good news cum prayer requests:
1. Nelson has finally received Christ..! keep him in prayer for God to touch him in a special way.. let there be a God encounter everyday!

2. New update! i got a new member in my family! her name is yu han! my niece! currently 1 week 3 days old.. so cute! i introduced Jesus to her already.. now waiting for her to respond only.. hoho.. =P

3. i am proposing to organise monthly prayer meet for all tertiary level (uni and poly).. so all can learn and share how God has been working at different grounds and be inspired to ask for more over there campus.. so please pray God can use me to gather like-minded people to kick start this! my heart is to gather and let this be moving.. pray that God can rise up leaders as well in the midst!

4. i really want to lead my cell to another level of heights for God.. but i know my heart must 1st be transformed fully so that God can really speak to them through a willing vessel.. do pray for me my walk can be close to Jesus.. so lust, greed, pride and many will be away..

5. QQS!! qian qian shou! i am waiting for the reply of my deferment for my call up that clashes with QQS.. so please pray bcoz many have been dropping out.. haiz.. brothers if you're interested, mai ka tu liao!!!

6. Tpe! a platform for anyone of us to use.. may it blossom with fruits! pray for FRUITS!!! i am engaging zheng quan! let's pray for open doors. nelson is one of the fruits! hehe..

7. Faith goal to pack magicbox by the end of this year! pray and work hard brothers! build God Kingdom! i still believing for it.. God is the mover, we just need to avail ourselves.. use the platform in 14 June! SPORTS Fiesta! invite frens!

8. Pray for lasting fruits to last.. each of us are precious.. but yet again, i really cannot take it why one who experienced God can harden their hearts and walk away from Him.. Pray for unity and steadfast hearts. let's pray for little ones who are in need like oswin, marcus, kingsley and victor for God to preserve them..

Jiayou brothers! we are entering a new season of interdependance.. let's work together and win together as a community!! YOU WIN = I WIN!! LET"S WIN WIN WIN For JESUS!! =P
