Perhaps when we are older, we will understand...
I would like to start off that in this year of Loving Our Neighbours, we need to learn to love our parents as well... But before we learn to love our parents, we need to understand their heartbeat... With this, i would like to share another song, Dan Fogelberg - Leader Of The Band
Yet again, this is another non-Christian song... This song is a tribute from Dan Folgerberg to his father, the leader of the band. After listening to it, i finally understand a bit more about my parents
Lyrics of Leader Of The Band:
He earned his love through discipline, a thundering velvet hand..
His gentle means of sculpting souls took me years to understand
I thank you for the music, and your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom, when it came my time to go
I thank you for the kindness and the times when you got tough
And papa I don't think I said I love you near enough
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Many times we don't understand why our parents discipline us. We feel unjustified, and blame our parents that they do not understand us. I used to complain that my father does not love me at all, then one statement that he made changed my life...
My dad said: "Son, I do not blame you if you do not understand my love for you. Perhaps when you are older, when you have a family of your own, then you will understand all that I've done for you"
My father is a typical Chinese parent, he will not say mushy words such as "I love you", and neither will he kiss me on the forehead or cheeks. But when both of us sit down and eat a meal, we know that we love each other in our hearts, and no words need to be said.
My dad used to discipline me very harshly when I was young, that is why i grow up in an environment of punishment. Now that I'm much older, i appreciate that discipline, because it is his way of sculpting my soul, just as the song goes. The chinese saying goes, those who are able to take hardship of hardships becomes people of great calibre. Without digesting that hardship, I do not think that I will be here today...
Similar to the lyrics: "I thank you for the music, and the stories of the road", my dad used to share his life journey, his mistakes with me... He tell me "Son, if you can avoid making mistakes, then do not make it. People always say that we learn from our mistakes, but certain mistakes are too costly a price to pay..." These impartations are invaluable to me and made me understand the hearbeat of my father more...
"I thank you for the freedom, when it came my time to go" - My dad once sat with me for breakfast and he told me: "Son, I work my life out, so that you can have a better life, so that I can give you all that you need to go out to life and explore all the possibilities out there. I am unlike some parents, who needs their children to be by their side... My hope for you is go out and lead your own life, and lead a good life..." The words are still stuck in my head till today i will never forget.
Epilogue:
We may not understand our parents heartbeat for us at this present stage, but I'm sure in due time, perhaps when we are much older, or until we start our family, then we will come to realize... We will come to appreciate, and we will come to love them just as much as they love us...
Signed with deep apologies for forgiveness,
VaZe

Corny Joggy
As I was having a rather long jog early in the morning, the initial half was but a breeze, however, the second half of the jog, became an arduous one.
Things like being drained out, having my shoelaces out, and losing grip of my music player were some reasons to it. And at a certain point, I told God that i will run faster (garang), and not slow down, however, i still slowed down near the end point.
As I pondered in my thoughts while running, i thought, "Isn't this the same as the Christian journey?"
Being drained out is due to the fact that we have not paced ourselves properly, and have overwhelmed our limitations.
As I was looking at my shoelaces, I thought of stopping to tie my shoelaces, however, I realized that, if i had to tie them, I would need to stop, and I would thus lose my jogging momentum and will get drained out even more quickly, and another thought came into me,
"What if my shoelaces get hooked onto something and i were to fall?"
However, with assurance from God that i nothing would happen to me, I continued running, at the same time, ensuring that i would avoid any objects that might entangle the shoelaces.
It dawned upon me that, that is just like obstacles in our lives. And that the best way to deal with it is to keep moving forward without allowing ourselves to be stumbled by it, and in fact, we should run by faith and keep trusting God! However, do keep the obstacle in view, and NOT let it cause us to fall.
Losing grip of my music player is not much of a problem, however, somehow, it was yet so significant. The 'problem' of losing grip of it could be solved while i was running, and it signifies the sharing of a burden.
An idiotproof way of explaining it, would be that, if you lose grip of your music player while holding it on your right hand, you either use your left hand to push it back up, or use your left hand to take it away from your right hand. Simple right?
This shows the left hand helping the right hand.
Just as we are all part of a single body in Christ, we are different parts too. We ought to help one another when the burden becomes too heavy for either party to bear!
Finally (YES FINALLEEEEEE), as i reluctantly slowed down at the last moments of the jog, due to excruciating stitch pains, intense muscle aches, and having a hard time catching my breath, it was revealed to me that no matter how strong our will, ultimately, we are still but imperfect beings.
"The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." Matthew 26:41b
However, the most important fact on this is that, God knows it, and being ever so gracious, He will forgive us when we fail to uphold to our words, and in fact, He has given us His Spirit to be our counselor, and to empower us to do great and mighty things to glorify His name.
Love,
Cornelius :D

The reality of lust...
A scientific person i am, i will start with the basic definition of lust. Lust is nt abt watching porn only, but it is abt looking at the opposite gender (girls) and having filithy thoughts in our minds of erm erm....
Unfortunately, lust is a prob that many ppl face... girls included as well... Definitely, the world always like to dilute the term lust, so we hear things like he/she is my eye candy, etc.... I am not a man of steel (superman), and i do nt possess a mind and heart of steel in order to nt have a liking at times towards girls... In fact, i was quite glad when i have a crush on a girl, because it goes to show that i'm wired correctly...
As a guy, infatuations are common, whereby u have a stronger feeling towards a girl compared to other girls, thats why u're a male... But when u start to ogle at the girl, with all those dirty thoughts generated in ur mind, it becomes lust. Definitely, i struggle with lust everyday of my life, especially with that infamous FBT shorts, super mini skirts and modifications to the school uniform...
I fight lust with both spiritual and practical tools... Both must come together for an effective approach... On the spiritual side, reading the Word of God renews the mind, inspires willpower and faith to abstain lust... Praying keeps ur mind focused on God rather than girls, seminars and conferences to equip with latest fighting techniques to combat lust... On the practical side, there's much to be done... Shifting your computer out is a smart move, keeping urself occupied with work can be an approach. For me, i'll rather stay out of home to study so that i wun be facing the computer alone at home (with no one watching)
When outside, it is akin to a warzone... Bullets of temptations shoot all over the shop to kill you with all the lacy dressing and shorts... Grenades of PDA can blind ur eyes when there are couples smooching each other... Artillery shells of provocative advertisments and magazines of FHM bombard u... Yet, u are equipped with more to fight back, the word of God as ur ultimate AK-47/M4A1/SAR 21, the Holy Spirit with ur common sense to turn ur eyes away as ur bullet proof Kevlar to shield the damage... and of course, intensive prayers that work as Holy Air Strike (HAS) or weapon of mass destruction (WMD) to NUKE satan's tools of lust back to hell where it belongs...
Sigh... easier said then done some may say... Well... it's a tough and small start, but it has to begin somewhere if u wanna see urself as a man after the very presence and heart of God... U will definitely stumble and fall many times.... thats why we need to constantly renew our covenant with God and ask for daily bread + clensing of the blood of the Lamb... Yet despite all the grace that abounds us when we fall into lust, we cannot take grace for granted... I believe that the grace of God is here for us when we fall but choose to confess our mistakes, repent and stand tall like a man and fight till the end.... Should we choose to fall time and yet again into lust, taking God's grace for granted, we're jus tampling Jesus under our foot (Hebrews 10:29) and incur God's wrath...
Ultimately, the thing which encourages me the most is from 1 Peter 5:9 where it says: Resist the devil, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. Everytime when i feel that i'm abt to give up, i thought abt my brothers kitkatbar, snuffy, Cornelius fighting the same battle of lust... and i told myself, shld i give up, i nt only let God down, let myself down, but let my comrades down as well... While they're fighting it, I shld stand beside them and fight with them till the end of this hectic life....
A true man is one who executes self discipline, has control over his actions by not acting impulsively, and is able to withstand all forms of punishment without yielding.... Fight ON!

How to grow God!! Its tough!!!
I apologise, due to my prelims and my computer crashes, i'm unable to actively blog... But now, I'm back.
Jus a short update of me life... Prelims have jus ended... I have another about 7 weeks more to A levels... Once after this 1 week break, gonna cheong and mug again....
Today.... I'll be sharing a little on how to grow in God....
When I first started out, its tough man i tell you... I gotta reschedule everything in my life, make time out for every sunday service and friday cell group, attend all the SOLs and conferences.... An effort needs to be made in order to kick start the momentum to grow....
Next... QUIET TIME!!! This is yet another challenge for me... I must admit that until now, i still dun have a very very zai and steady, everyday quiet time... I still miss it on some of the days... But what challenges me is when i started reading the Word and begin to "force" myself to understand the word, setting aside my "prime time" to do quiet time so that i wun fall asleep during QT, going to college early so that i can really do QT without any distractions... Penning down some thoughts that i have so that i can keep God's word in my heart and remember it during critical times of my life, where i dun have the bible with me...
U see, the key to grow is an effort and sacrifice that has to be made.... We can jolly well use our time to do other things such as playing and phoning and chit chatting, but we chose to give it all for God... Keyword: DISCIPLINE!!! u need to ahve a heck amount of that in order to go on and on despite having difficulties surrounding u...
When i first started quiet time in college every morning from 0700 to 0730.... its tough.... I gotta wake up at around 0545 and set off at 0615 to reach there on time so that i wun make God wait for me... (Imagine that a king has to wait for you!!). Sometimes i need to take a cab down if I'm really running late, money is spent!!! Sometimes i have unfinished work to do... and its very tempting to give up the QT for the sake of the unfinished work.... But i still say that this 1/2 hr is consecrated for the Lord, i wun touch it regardless of work.... If i cannot finish my work, so be it... i"ll resume after the QT session....
I hope u see that it takes effort, discipline and perserverance to start doing things... Looking back, i really thank God that i've made this effort otherwise i wun be well equipped with the Word to press in thru the difficulties and storms ahead in life with more ease and assurance...
DUN GIVE UP!!! Try and try again till u find a QT method and timing that suits urself, it varies from ppl to ppl...

Jogging thotsz!!
To give an update of me life, what happen is that i went jogging with my dad on sunday... learnt a few interesting facts....
1. The Son knows the Father and the Father knows the Son....
wat happen is that i ran 3.5km with my dad, after which i ran out of stamina and my dad ran ahead of me by a good 1km. So... being without handphone, the only way to trace and find him was to jog back the same route that we came from.... I walked abt 2km and still cannot find him... Pasir Ris Park alot of ppl mah.... In the end, found him at the start point after abt 30mins doing stretching while waiting...
lets face it, sometimes we seem to "cannot find God" or God is "nowhere to be found". I realized that if u journeyed with God over some time, u will be able to recognize God, thru His voice and the blessings He showered in ur life. Even from far, u will be able to see Him and be glad to have Him within your sights, let alone to be standing next to him. For His name is Emmanuel - GOD WITH US!!!
2. When u seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him!!
Well... though i'm rather old, its seems to scare me a bit when i cannot find me dad. We're good pals after all... When I found him, he's standing at the crossroads of the start point, a very prominent location.... As i parallel it with my walk with God, i find that it explains the verses that when we seek Him, we'll find Him, God doesn't play hide and seek with us (though hide and seek is a nice game to play though)
After all thats been said, i'm trying to highlight tat sometimes we seek God, yet "dun seem to find Him" only goes to show a thing. You've found Him, yet u dun seem to accept that. Well, God doesn't appear to u in a suit of light or with FIRE from heaven. But sometimes, its the peace and calmness in ur heart, the blessings in ur life like being able to board a bus everytime u reach a bus stop that really proves that He's near and working in u.
Thus, its really the small small things in life that assures me that God is here with me all the time, then it makes it much easier to keep ur faith in Him high in times of crisis so that no doubts enter u! Bless u....

Run, Fat Boy, Run!

Watched this movie with Jasper and Frans yesterday. We had totally no idea of what this movie is about, neither did we have any expectations. We thought this show was a goner because 5 minutes before the show started, three of us were the ONLY people in the cinema!
Quite a good movie with some learning point behind. Would recommend you guys to watch. However, do filter out some of the crude jokes. Speaks alot about life and one of my life principle which I always live by: Don't just talk the walk, but walk the talk!
Grab a few friends or brothers and catch this show quick! :)

New Initiative of the Lord ~ Vasilli Alexandrovich Zaitsev
(Learn from the openings of the letters of Paul in Romans, Galatians, Corinthians, etc ahahx ;D)
Ok guys... I noe its long since my last post... Nth much spiritual things to update for the past weeks...
This week... there's a new initiative that i took for this week.... Trying it out... Since i always run the risk of being late for college, i decided to learn from Jesus, wake up early to go to college to do my QT. Its very tough... waking up every morning at 0530, meeting Jesus in an empty classroom at 0700 sharp to do a solid 30 mins QT, then go for college assembly
The Word says in Joshua 1 "Meditate on the Word day and night, so that you may be careful to everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Since I have to meditate on it day and night, and i do 30mins of QT in college as the first thing of everyday, i do another 30 mins at night from 2330 to 0000hrs to mark the end of the day. So... I have a solid 1hr QT with the LORD!!!
This is the 3rd day of my new initiative, and i find it rather easy and very successful (thank God for it), i invited 1 classmate of mine to join me in this initative. He agreed, and from today onwards, there will be 2 person in an empty classroom every monring at 0700hrs to do QT with the LORD!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!
PS: Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labour in vain - Psalms 127. Therefore, unless the Lord establish the works of my hands (Psalm 90:17), unless the Lord's hand is with me (1 Chronicles 4:10 - Jabez Prayer), and unless I meditiate on the Word day and night (Joshua 1 + Psalms 1), or i will never be successful everywhere i go.... AMEN!

Exercise ah!
In fact, I never expected to be exercising! Wahaha.Met Leonard (Koh) at Redhill MRT station in the morning, then headed for breakfast.
After breakfast, we headed to Andre's place for a jog. Jogged to Botanic Gardens!
It was quite tiring (at least for me), and after that we took a stroll around the Botanic Gardens.
We sat by the pond and were watching it.
Wah, we caught a rare sight, there was a dead (white) fish and we were like, "What is that?"Soon after, a whole horde of terrapins (mainly red earred ones) were swimming towards it for food. Quite a rare sight in the Botanic Gardens. Then some birds also came by and were like "camping" to take some flesh from the fish. After that we jogged back to Andre's home. And now, geared up for tennis!
Headed to play tennis. Of course, all of us enjoyed it, especially Andre, who (under my "coaching") finally learnt how to serve the ball properly and he kept on practising
.Saw another funny, yet nice, sight. There were many leaves moving around the tennis court in a spiral motion.
Finally, we sat at a corner of the tennis court and started sharing and chatting. That's all folks!

Vasilli's halfway thru the week
1st thing, Jaren, its ok to blog NOT in short, sweet point form. To each his own style.
next, my week is drastically changed by the 40 day fast. No computer games? No TV? Even my dad laughed at me siaz, says that he think i will not last for even 20 days. So nw I'm counting down.
Next, house visiting to my place this weekend is officially cancelled. Jus received my exam timetable. my exams start is on the 7th, 17th, 18th and 19th March, jus b4 santification and tabernacle. Gd thing this 40 days fast is in place, otherwise i really dunno wat happen...
I try my best to stay alive to study, but its really tough when there's cca and test that lasts till evening 7.20pm. So its like, monday, tuesday and wednesday i'm shack out already physically. The only times when i can study will be on thursday, friday, and the weekends. So its really precious to me. May need to be OFFICIALLY EXCUSED from TPE from this sat onwards to prepare for Econs paper on the 7th. In case u dunno, Econ's is my worst subject after GP.
Maths test on tuesday was a great delight.... Quite ok, estimated losses: 20% , still can score A.
My week began with God's love. I really find joy and hope to go college everyday because I fixed my mind on God. I made up my mind that I go to college for Him, I study for Him, and I do my PE lessons for Him. There's a new perspective and energy in me for college.
Shocks in this week will come from Runescape. Dun bother asking me what "it" is. "It" asked me a few wierd and silly questions which i will only share with brothers with class 6 security clearance and above.
Well well, for accountability's sake and loyalty's sake, I tell u sth new... I have a new crush on another girl, dun bother asking me who she is. That requires a security clearance of class 10 and above. Well, its normal to have crush(es)..... But i'm convicted to stay dormant for the rest of my life in this area of BGR. So far, the only few people with security clearance of class 10 and above will only be AH PA, AH GONG and above... So dun bother trying to hack into my brains to find out more.
With that, i end here.... Over and Out....

Woohoo!
Nyahaha. Got to continue mugging. This 40 day fast and prayer came in so timely.
This way, I can concentrate more on my lessons on Jurong Island which will satrt on the 3rd of march!
And, instead of playing computer games, I rather play the keyboard. Heh.
Just a very brief update guys! Cya all more after the exams! :)
Here's a song for you guys to listen to if you're bored!

Exams!
Yeah, as the post title says, THE EXAMS ARE HERE!
Woo.5 papers, they are on the 15th, 18th, 19th, 21st and 22nd of february.
Wahaha.Siong right. After that 1 week holidays :)
AND then 6 weeks on Jurong Island.
Pray for protection (Jurong Island is a highly explosive place), and of course, for me to shine for Jesus in Jurong Island and for my exams.
Have been continuing to reach out to Zheng Quan...Not so easy as he's in army, however, God is still faithful! Somehow managed to contact him though he has been so busy. :D
So of course, I've just started mugging today, which is quite late :/
However, I will definitely do my best and to shine for God. :D
God has definitely provided for me, and brothers, He will definitely provide for you all!

Know His power, in quietness and trust..." (adapted from "Still" Hillsong)
Your one and only beloved 宅男 bro! :D
Edited 12:40pm : Some slight typos :/
EDIT 2:10pm: Another prayer request, something's wrong with me. A certain part of my head was aching for 1 day and 1 night. Kinda like my right eye, yet like my brain. Guess something's wrong with the muscles/veins/whatever is connecting my right eye to my brain :(
But today it's fine, pray that it will not come back :)
